occupy

i've gained a lot more respect for the movement after watching this documentary. vanguard does a great job; i saw their doc on oxycontin, which is also very good, about a year ago.

today:

like 12 hours of nonstop indian classical. ravi shankar all day, bitches.
his daughter anoushka is pretty kickass too.

hit it and quit it

this octavia butler class has brought me to understand two things: that george clinton of parliament-funkadelic is a crazy motherfunker and that i am entirely incapable of writing a good or otherwise intriguing research paper. writing papers jus ain't mah thang.

edit: untrue; self-deprecation is "mah thang." this pape' ain't that bad.

was pretty sweet. i really enjoy the fact that for me, plans are entirely unnecessary. when a good day is going to happen, it just happens. it can't be forced, and it shouldn't be expected.

today:

it's totally a Ramble On kind of day.

2011/11/08

the ultimate gift

daylight savings time is a pretty damn cool annual birthday present. maybe this is where my devaluation of the monetary system stems from; no amount of money can buy a 25-hour day.

i love when this guy uses odd time signatures.

dick v butler round 2

i still prefer dick's style, but butler's dystopias are growing on me.

i like this novel:

reasoning pants

"I gotta ask, shorts in November: why?"
"Because they're comfortable."

reasons. who needs 'em? besides, seasons don't evenly distribute into four chunks of three months. i just don't think it works that way.

edit:

i guess i should've said "Because I want to show off my sexy legs."

philip k dick

why am i reading octavia e butler? philip k dick is a far more interesting and talented author. butler has great things to say, the questions she provokes are intriguing and powerful, but dick is just a better writer. better prose, better ideas, an overall more artistic and effective use of language.

"The odd thing in this world is that an eager-beaver type, with no original ideas, who mimes those in authority above him right to the last twist of necktie and scrape of chin, always gets noticed. Gets selected. Rises."

food

i love making food. how did this happen?

i just like cooking. thinking about it the same way i've learned to think about the creation of music, writing, any creative process really, made a lot more sense to me. i like any activity that effectively combines creative and improvisational aspects. improvisation and creation; not a lot of people would list those as their interests, would they?

let's cook.

dreams and memories

holy shit i made it to today. to the weekend. the weeks are only going to get more brutal. gonna have to switch to coffee, tea won't last me much longer at this rate.

i've had this 7/4 groove stuck in my head lately:

i wish i had drums, i wanna play this on drums again.

sounds

some sounds i've made over the seasons. interesting nostalgia.

summer '11 : grungefunk noiseadelic, kubrick samples (demo)

spring '11 : acoustic dada experiments

winter '11 : proggy electroshit (incomplete demo)

summer '10 : nighttime theme music for banjo (incomplete)

spring '10 : spoken word electrofunk in 7/4 (uncut demo)

winter '10 : stoner sexfunk (aaron on drums)

spring '09 : the levis play false eagle (remastered)

what a mix.

wakamatsu

no class today.

i still have yet to finish the last two of stanley kubrick's filmography. my new director of interest, however, is koji wakamatsu. i am very intrigued by his work, though a little hesitant to watch it despite my excitement. he does creepy stuff.

i don't understand this at all but i think it is awesome.

elephant talk

i made this blog address about a year ago with the intention of posting music and art i find, make, or steal... this might happen eventually.
